Scott’s little Polo defines clean. We would go as far to say that it is probably the cleanest car kicking around Scotland just now.
Building the car himself on his time off work, Scott strived to find the perfect balance between personality and simplicity. In his own words “ I tried to keep the car subtle and clean, but finding the right wheels was a nightmare”. We all know wheels can make or break a car, especially when trying to keep a simple clean look. Scott, to our delight, ended up opting for a set of ETA Beta Cup’s which he picked up on German Ebay. They didn’t end up on until a year later, as he spent 7 months fighting a claim with DHL over the wheels arriving with all the lips totally knackered. In the end, with no payout from them, he bit the bullet and ordered new lips – his brother ordered the wrong size, but that’s a whole different story. Now on the car and finished in Porsche grey, he can finally stand back and smile.
I’m sure it’s obvious from the photos, or if you have seen the car already this year – Scott is addicted to clean paintwork. The front end has been painted more times than he can remember, and it’s had two full re-sprays in the 5 years he has owned it. It’s pretty much flawless.
From the outset you don’t really appreciate the detail that has gone into making this car. From the pedals and gear knob from mk7, which both have custom machine parts to allow them to fit, to the super clean interior (of course trimmed by Del at Optimus ) to the original Porsche center cap, again machined down to fit. This car is just full of little touches that make it special. The spec list is just massive.
For Scott, it has been a massive learning curve doing all the work himself, and he is the first to admit it didn’t always go to plan. But now the car is done, he couldn’t be happier. The cherry on top was the car picking up Best of Show at Dubshed last month. He isn’t shy in taking it anywhere; it’s made the trip to Wörthersee and to many shows all over the UK. I’m sure you’ll see it around at some point this year – it will be gleaming in our hangar at cleanfest anyway.
